Frans Poptie uit Leiden was één van Nederlands beste violisten en internationaal bekend. Hij maakte solo en met zijn swing / jazz quintet meer dan 50 jaar mooie muziek. Dit album ''The Early Years'' met 17 instrumentale liedjes is uit zijn begin periode en met enkele hits als ''Hilversum Express'' die goed bewaard zijn gebleven.
